Fulfilled Democracy Everywhere

Instantly & Practicably

(Maine & Oregon Ranked Ballot Victories)

The recent win for Ranked Ballot (RB) makes Maine the first right leaning locale to adopt it, a truly transformative occurrence. See RCVMaine & BetterBallotBenton.

Because it gives an equal chance of winning to not just all parties, but all combinations of programs, RB, voters ranking candidates in order of preference, is most Just & most Free. Because of its shining light in the eyes of the world & cause it always picks the one most in the middle, while giving an equal chance to all proposals, on a case by case basis, (& not just one at a time) RB is more counter extremist than all the many recent retrenchments combined. The “additive” form of RB is counting the first choices & then, in no one has 50%, adding in the next choices, & so on, til someone finally does. RB won’t change the essential nature of any area, just give it more nuance. while alternative views will have a real chance to sway the mass of voters in their direction. RB, plus the “instant part, running in support of the single issue (of RB) promising a citizens advisory board, based on ”Organized Communications” (OC), randomly assigned discussion groups electing reps (by means of RB) to higher & higher random levels, til one small group remains, will give us instant practicable RB everywhere, the answer to all things all at once.

RB will allow everything from sharing the work, the workweek attached to the unemployment rate (to end foot-dragging, maximize motivation & thus prosperity & end too big to fail) all the way to replacing public education with having to prove you can read to vote (now that learning is universally valued & there’s broadband).

RB will give collective leaderships a means to avoid adventurism & the Arabs a means to choose their leaders from among the nonviolent middle. RB is to the two horse & buggy effectively two party systems (biggest gang on the block parliamentary & king of the hill presidential) as shopping at the Mall of America is to shopping in Soviet Russia.

Let all for RB try to get on the ballot, run on the single issue, promise an OC based Citizens Advisory Board, ask those who sign their petitions to petition for them as well, cast a blank, NOTA,None Of The Above ballot, demand a response from office holders to RB &/or help this effort or other ones, like in ME or OR. Just as Freedom w/o Justice is illegitimate, so too is Justice w/o Freedom. It is not enough to claim you are for the Good without risking pain to do something about it.

My name is Chris Bolt and I am a doctoral candidate at St. John Fisher College’s Wilson School of Education. My research focuses on environmental education in the public sphere. Specifically, I am comparing the range of educational methods and activities with behavioral research on why people change their beliefs and actions. Your organization has been chosen to participate in a brief survey (find link attached), whether you work on pollution, energy, transportation, habitat & nature, toxics, climate or other issues. The survey should take 8 to 12 minutes to complete.

https://sjfc.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_7UuUHCUSrOWiXoV

(you might have to cut and paste in browser)

Organization names, websites and any other identifying information will remain anonymous, as will all email addresses and individual contact information.

Please complete only one survey per organization. Feel free to forward the survey to any other groups or colleagues in Upstate New York to maximize reach and improve the results.

As a survey respondent, you can also choose to participate in an in-depth, case study, a 2nd part of the research project. Individuals in your organization who have a role in environmental education would be interviewed, along with a review of education materials. Again, organizations and individuals would be kept anonymous.

Thank you for your participation in this research project. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or to receive results at the conclusion of the study.

Hi, I am writing to inquire whether someone from your group would be interested in being part of a panel discussion. My student group is hosting a film screening of “Beyond Standing Rock” at Madison Theater on April 6 at 7pm. The film touches on recent events at Standing Rock, but also details other instances of fighting pipeline expansion across the United States. We are interested in having your group represented on our panel discussion after the film.

I am totally in favor of this action but want to LOUDLY object to piggy-backing the renewable fuels/climate issue onto what is clearly an environmental justice issue. This is a classic mistake of white, middle-class liberals – tone deafness about the racial and ethnic communities you’re purporting to defend. Additionally, two different messages makes you ineffective. Also, I take it that you’re all driving to this event….please, please DEFEND THE COMMUNITY! Stop the self-centered crap. This is a SAFETY issue and a JUSTICE issue.

Hi folks. I suggest you give someone authorization to keep your social media sites running. There may be some kinks along the way, but anyone who can handle using the internet at all should be able to work this out at least on a rudimentary level.

I am trying to reach Sandy (?) to have her be a guest on my radio show this week, if at all possible. She spoke for our group (Warren County Greens) a month or so back and I have a live weekly show each Thursday at 1pm and would love to have her come on for the whole hour to discuss fracking.

I am a Labor Representative who represents Maintenance of Way Employees employed by Class 1, Shortline and Regional Rail Carriers in New England, including the Delaware and Hudson (CP Rail) which operates in Albany, NY . While the additional haulage of Crude Oil has been somewhat lucrative to my respective membership and has provided them with some additional work opportunities, I believe that I understand the position of your group and the interest of protecting your community from becoming another Le Megantic. I have recently been contacted from the Railway (D&H/CP Rail) who in partnership with Global is expanding capacity in the Kenwood Yard (Albany, NY) and the running tracks thereto close to North Lawrence Street in Downtown Albany. The reason that I was contacted is due to the fact that the Railroad was looking to and is actively subcontracting the construction of these tracks to subcontractors (I believe Railworks) to perform my members’ work that is reserved to them under the contract. I understand that this is a separate dispute and I will and plan to handle that under the terms of my collective bargaining agreement; HOWEVER, I thought that your group would be interested to know that the contractors that are generally assigned to perform this work are non-rail professionals, are not regulated to the standards of the Railroad’s employees in terms of Drug and Alcohol Testing (a fair amount of contractor employees are just that because they could not work on or for a class 1 railroad). While I understand that your group is opposed to the expansion of rail for the purposes of Crude Oil Transport and that you want to ensure that the Railroads are held to the standard of keeping your communities safe, the fact is that they are building this track, more oil will be coming into the City of Albany once these projects are complete and I suppose my question is would you rather have these tracks built by those who are professionals, federally regulated and have to meet much higher standards, than those that are non-rail professionals, and not as regulated as their counterparts who actually work for the railroads?

I just thought that this was some information that you may be interested in that CP Rail (Delaware and Hudson) by hiring non-rail professionals to build track in Albany for the transport of Crude Oil seems to not be seriously weighing the risk by not assigning professionals to do this job. I believe that the public should be made aware of this and I plan to notify some of the State Officials as well as some in Congress of this issue.

I live in Newburgh NY and our house is 50 feet from the CSX line. This track has seen a massive increase in freight service in the last 2 years, with most of it being oil tankers. I was told a few weeks ago by a reputable RE agent that the value of my house and property has plummeted due to the danger of these trains – is there a way that we could sue for lost property value? I am not necessarily looking to make $$ here – but what they are doing to us all is unfair and maybe this would help force them to pay attention. Who would we sue? The DOT? RR Fed? Oli Companies? Train line?

Dear friends,

The Spectrum is getting a film you may be interested in. Planetary is a documentary about how all things on earth are interconnected. It explores the various crises that the planet is facing and how we as humans fit into those crises and the possible solutions.

On Earth Day, April 22nd, the film will screen at The Spectrum and across the country at 630pm. If you are interested in promoting this film let me know and we would be happy to display pamphlets or flyers for your organization on a special table in the lobby the night of the event.

For any questions you can contact the business office at 518-449-8995 ex.10. We look forward to hearing from you!

I volunteer some of my time to help nonprofits with their websites. I worked in IT for 18 years and was also a professional webmaster. I’ve helped a lot organizations already. Do you have any interest in getting a new custom website at no cost? I just helped a canine rescue and their site is really nice now. I worked with a homeless shelter before that and also helped them with professional online donations.

Sincerely,

We live right near (2 blocks) from the tracks with the same Bakken oil trains. They go through 11 towns in Bergen County, NJ. We have the beginnings of a Coalition to Ban Unsafe Oil Trains. We’ve had two demonstrations with lots of media coverage.

Charley Bowman, from the Western NY Peace Center said we must contact PAUSE. We really should work together. Please keep us posted about what you are doing and how we can work with you.

My letter made it into the NY Times today. On Sunday, November 30, 2014, Paula Rogovin wrote:

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/30/opinion/sunday/oil-drills-and-spills.html?smprod=nytcore-iphone&smid=nytcore-iphone-share

They revised it, but at least it got in.

Thanks.

I’m a member of the Schenectady LWV Environment Committee. We’re interested in doing a public information meeting on oil trains, since CSX passes thru Schenectady, right over our aquifer. Do you have someone who is well-informed on this topic that could participate in a panel?

Hi,

I am in the process of organizing buses to go to NYC on Sept. 21st for the People’s Climate March. I thought your group would be interested in attending and marching. I have presently reserved 3 charter buses to leave from UAlbany’s campus and take us to NYC. Right now it is looking like bus tickets will be around $25 per person. Please contact me as soon as possible to discuss interest and participation. My email is kathorvath@aol.com and cell number is 703-297-7576
