Oil tanker protestors rally outside Albany City Hall

WNYT | April 1, 2015 | Staff Report

ALBANY - People rallied outside Albany City Hall on Wednesday to protest the crude oil tankers that travel alongside local homes

The protesters held signs and sang songs to call attention to their fight.

They say the trains bringing oil in and out of the Port of Albany are disasters just waiting to happen.

"The oil is so volatile. The train cars they travel in are very fragile.  They're travelling over decrepit rails and bridges.  There's simply no margin for error, and they have exploded four times this past winter," said Sandy Steubing, a protest organizer.

Protesters worry that kind of explosive derailment could happen here.

The oil tankers go through the city of Albany and run along many local homes.
