Old oil tanker cars would be stored on Tahawus rail sidings

Times Union | July 29, 2015 | Post by Eric Anderson

The Glens Falls Post Star is reporting this morning that the Saratoga and North Creek Railway wants to use miles of rail sidings in Tahawus, Essex County, to store hundreds of old oil tanker cars that won’t meet new safety standards and aren’t likely to be retrofitted. The storage business could produce revenues “in the seven figures” for Iowa Pacific Holdings, SNCRR’s parent firm.

The cars would be in a remote area out of sight, according to Ed Ellis, president of the railway and of the holding company. He said the cars would be empty and many would be cleaned before storage. They would be locked as well.

While Warren County officials gave the plan tentative approval, a county attorney said the railway likely didn’t need formal approval, and Ellis said the plan didn’t require state or federal approval. the Post Star story is here.

The stored them like that over here. But the DVLA prevented it and because it was dangerous.
