Stand Together

Printable Version (pdf Document)

When the terrorist attacks of 9-11-2001 occurred I just was as devastated as everyone else, and terrified that our country would respond by starting a war.  Unfortunately we couldn't stop the U.S. invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, even though there were record massive demonstrations and a majority of Americans were against a military response.  This is a scar that will never heal on my heart.  But I was so lucky to find, over the past 16 years, networks of people working for Peace, Justice, the Environment, Human and Animal Rights, Independent Media and more.

I am sharing this information with you about some of these organizations and encourage you to jump in where you find a cause that will nourish your aching heart, as this  work has eased mine.  Were it not for the people I have met over the years as we struggled TOGETHER I may have lost it.  And please send me info about other groups in Albany N.Y. and surrounding areas for future revisions of this little red book of info!

As our planet is being destroyed, profits being made a priority over people, people targeted because of religion, gender affiliation, race etc., the future generation's hopes squandered for the few, violence escalating, on and on, it is ever more critical than ever for us all to step up and  STAND TOGETHER.

* Quote to ponder : Everyone Makes A  Difference.

What is imperative is to recognize that millions of people ( whose names we will never know) have worked for peace and justice throughout history, and that their efforts HAVE made a difference.  Hundreds of thousands of people around the world are working today in the same tradition.  If we believe the politicians and media celebrities who describe present-day activism as "quaint nostalgia" we blot out all of their/our work.  No one who wields power and influence in the political mainstream is going to voluntarily acknowledge that someone outside their realm has had any impact on public events.  The peace movement has to assert its claim for the impact it has on the character and content of public debate and for the effect on public opinion that the empowerment of individuals has.

Jewish Voice for Peace, Albany Chapter

Founded February 2014Through grassroots organizing, education, advocacy, and media, Jewish Voice for Peace works to achieve a lasting peace that recognizes the rights of both Israelis and Palestinians for security and self-determination.JVP is a national organization. We have 200,000 supporters on our email list, 10,000 individual donors, over 60 chapters across the United States, a staff of 25; a Rabbinic Council; an Artists’ Council; an Academic Advisory Council; a youth wing; and an Advisory Board consisting of some of the best-known Jewish thinkers of our time. We represent a growing portion of Jewish Americans. Israel claims to be acting in the name of the Jewish people, so we are compelled to make sure the world knows that many Jews are opposed to their actions. There are often attempts to silence critics of Israel by conflating legitimate criticism with anti-Semitism. Israel is a state, not a person. Everyone has the right to criticize the unjust actions of a state.JVP supports full equality for Palestinians and Jewish Israelis grounded in international law and universal principles of human rights. Because we believe in concrete action, and not just words, JVP was the first major Jewish peace group to demand that American military aid be withheld until Israel ends its occupation. We also are the only major Jewish group to support the Palestinian civil society call for boycott, divestment and sanctions.

Stop NY Fracked Gas Pipeline ( SNYFGP) is an all-volunteer group of concerned citizens opposed to fossil fuel infrastructure buildout in New York State and beyond. * Quote to ponder :" Naturally the common people don't want war, but after all, it is the leaders of a country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag people along whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or  a communist dictatorship.  Voice or no voice , the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. This is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works in every country"  Herman Goering. Hitler's Reich-Marshall at the Nuremberg Trials after WWII
