Monday marked the second anniversary of the Bakken crude oil train that derailed and exploded in Canada, killing 47 people. Bakken crude oil of course travels through and is stored at the Port of Albany. Last year, Governor Cuomo sent a letter to President Obama calling for more federal safety guidelines. But protestors Monday afternoon stood outside the governor's mansion, saying crude oil should not enter the area at all. Sandy Steubing of PAUSE - People of Albany United for Safe Energy - joined us to talk more about this.

When an accident happens involving crude oil, it can sometimes be taxpayers that foot the bill for cleanup. A group of lawmakers is trying to change that. The Petroleum Storage Surety bill would place the financial responsibility in the hands of the oil storage facility or vessel its traveling in. One of the sponsors, Queens Senator Tony Avella, joined us to talk more about this.
