ALBANY, NY – Citizens of the Capital District mark the second anniversary of a train tragedy in front of Governor’s mansion on Eagle street, to honor the 47 people who died in the explosive train derailment two years ago.

On July 6, 2013, a train owned by the Montreal Maine and Atlantic Railway Ltd. (MMA) derailed in Lac-Mégantic. The derailment caused the cargo to explode, costing 47 individuals their lives.

A large number of people belonging to all walks of life in the community demonstrated outside the mansion chanting slogans against the state authority. On this occasion representatives of the community stated that people come first, not profit. They have also said that NYS protects it’s people and protects it’s environment.

Speakers at this occasion spoke of moral and environmental issues and said fossil fuel is the main cause of this war and the demoting of our environment. They pleaded to Governor Como to stop these Bomb trains from Port of Albany; stating that the Governor has authority and he can have this accomplished by exercising his power.
